Stephen Colbert’s “praise” for Donald Trump quickly turns into comic chaos centered on himself.NH

Stephen Colbert on Monday did something highly unusual.

“The Late Show” host gave President Donald Trump credit for helping broker the ceasefire in Gaza. “OK, it’s important,” said Colbert. “Credit where credit is due. Donald Trump did something good.”

Then, turning offstage, he joked, “Are we still canceled? You sure? I tried. I tried.”

CBS announced this summer that it was nixing Colbert’s show. It will end in May 2026. The network claimed the axing was down to “purely financial” reasons. But it came as parent company Paramount Global sought approval from the Trump administration for its now-granted merger with Skydance Media.

Colbert, a vehement critic of the president, riffed again on the theme later in his monologue when noting Trump’s recent admission that he likely won’t make it to heaven.

“I agree with Donald Trump,” Colbert said, pausing before glancing offstage again: “Still canceled?”
