Muir’s parents divorced when he was very young, but despite this, they raised him together.

In an interview with Syracuse.com, Muir talked about how his parents would drive him to the television studios where he had an internship. “One of the images I won’t forget is my mother and my father driving me there on summer vacation or school breaks,” he said.
“When most kids go off to do other things, I remember just begging them to take me to that TV station,” he added. “I’m sure they dreaded it. Between the two of them, they had to get me there. To this day, I’m grateful they would drive me to 980 James St.”

He’s close to his older sister, Rebecca
David’s older sister, Rebecca Muir, runs a farm in Borodino, New York. He has posted photos of himself online visiting her, and celebrating Thanksgiving together.
He also has two younger step-siblings from his father’s second marriage.

He has a “squad”
Muir is a proud uncle, with a whole host of nieces and nephews who he dubs as his “squad.” He called himself a “proud uncle” when he watched his niece Finan Malcolm graduate from Cornell University.
He loves his dog, Axel
Though he does not have any children of his own, he has a dog named Axel, who is the apple of his eye.
The gundog often makes an appearance on the tv hosts’ Instagram page.
