The Kansas City Chiefs were on a bye in Week 10 but that doesn’t mean there weren’t things to talk about. This weekend, Colts running back Jonathan Taylor rushed for 244 yards and three touchdowns against the Falcons, prompting Chiefs fans to revist the 2020 NFL Draft and how Brett Veach drafted Clyde Edwards-Helaire over the Colts sensation.

Well, former Chiefs offensive tackle Mitchell Schwartz wasn’t having any of that. Schwartz, who spent five years of his nine-year NFL career in Kansas City, didn’t hold back unloading on Chiefs fans who might still be seething about that particular mistake by Veach, posting a lengthy rant on X on Sunday afternoon.

“Hey Chiefs fans please STFU about not picking Jonathan Taylor. This is a pretty damn good run of first rounders. If your expectation is that the GM (of any team) do better than this then you’re living in la la land and you don’t deserve to be listened to. Enough already.”

Schwartz also included an attachment with a list of the Chiefs’ last seven first-round picks, which include Patrick Mahomes (2017), Edwards-Helaire (2020), George Karlaftis (2022), Trent McDuffie (2022), Felix Anudike-Uzomah (2023), Xavier Worthy (2024), and Josh Simmons (2025). Obviously, Mahomes has worked out swimmingly, as have Karlaftis and McDuffie.

The others, however, it’s either a “not so much” or the jury is still out kind of thing. Edwards-Helaire did not play like a first-rounder, FAU has been a bust, Worthy is only in Year 2 so we’ll have to wait and see on him, and Simmons has played in four games.

Mitchell Schwartz calls out Chiefs fans on social media

It makes sense why Chiefs fans would be upset about the whole Taylor/Edwards-Helaire thing. Veach drafted a running back for the Chiefs in that 2020 draft, only he drafted the wrong one. While Taylor has rushed for over 1,000 yards in four of his six NFL seasons, Edwards-Helaire never did so during his time with the Chiefs. The closest he came was as a rookie in 2020 when he dashed for 803 yards and four touchdowns.

That being said, Schwartz isn’t having any Brett Veach slander. Chiefs fans might not love Veach’s decision-making with this pick but that doesn’t mean they still don’t respect Veach or that they can’t call out the bad picks when they happen. Both things can certainly be true here.
