After eight games, the Green Bay Packers are finally closer to getting wide receiver Jayden Reed back on the fold. On Friday, the team designated him for return from the injured reserve and opened his 21-day practice window. Now, he has three weeks to be activated — but that can happen at any point, including ahead of the Minnesota Vikings game on Sunday.
It’s highly unlikely that Reed would play on Sunday, but his return to practice is a good indication anyway.

Jayden Reed is the Packers’ most explosive weapon on offense
The full capacity of the Packers’ offense might not be realized without tight end Tucker Kraft, who’s out for the season with a knee injury. However, the return of Jayden Reed would be massive for the unit. Reed led the Packers in receiving yards in each of his first two seasons in the NFL. And even playing only one and a half games this season, he leads the team in efficiency metrics, like yards per route run.
Packers’ WRs in yards per route run
- Jayden Reed 3.21
- Christian Watson 2.07
- Savion Williams 1.86
- Romeo Doubs 1.75
- Matthew Golden 1.43
- Bo Melton 1.33
- Dontayvion Wicks 1.15
- Malik Heath 0.95
Outside of Savion Williams, who’s been utilized in a role to generate yards after the catch due to his running ability, Jayden Reed also leads the wide receivers in yards after the catch per reception (5.0), a great trait to replace what the Packers lost when Kraft got hurt.
Earlier in the season, Jayden Reed was also handling a foot injury. When he broke his collarbone back in Week 2 against the Washington Commanders, Reed took advantage of the absence to make a double surgery. Now he’s fully healthy from his foot issue, and he’s in the final stages of recovery from his shoulder injury.
Over his first seasons with the Packers, the former second-round pick has had 122 catches, 1,695 receiving yards, 282 rushing yards, and 18 total touchdowns.
This is a big rest of the season for Reed, because he becomes eligible to receive a contract extension next offseason. If the slot receiver returns well and continues to perform at a high level, he will be in position to secure his second deal with the Packers.
Right now, though, Green Bay’s priority is to get Jayden Reed back on the field and make sure the offense gets fully back on track as soon as possible.
