⚡ LATEST UPDATE: Richard Sherman reacts in disbelief as Brandon Aiyuk’s shocking behavior costs him a massive $120 million with the 49ers.QQ

Retired Super Bowl winner Richard Sherman shared his honest thoughts on Brandon Aiyuk’s situation with the San Francisco 49ers. The wide receiver was placed on the PUP list in July as he continued to rehabilitate from the ACL and MCL injuries he suffered in 2024.
However, despite having enough time for recovery, Aiyuk has yet to play a single snap for the 49ers this season. Thus, the team decided to void the guaranteed money part of the wide receiver’s contract.
Speaking on Monday’s episode of his podcast, Richard Sherman was left baffled by Brandon Aiyuk’s situation and his complete disappearance despite expectations that he would return at some point this season.
“Unfortunately, I had a little bit more inside information so it’s not as shocking for me,” Sherman said. “It’s shocking because it’s going to play out this way because this scenario, at this point in the season, helps nobody. I’m not blaming BA, I’m not blaming the 49ers, etc. But I think BA coming back and doing his best to play as well as he can helps the 49ers and it helps Brandon Aiyuk.

“I think the position of Brandon Aiyuk not playing anymore this season. … that doesn’t help anybody. If BA doesn’t play this season, and he gets cut at the end of the year, that does nothing to help anybody. … But I just don’t understand why that would be the case? Why would you make the decision as a player?
“Everybody has their own reasons for doing things. But if you are a player, and you want out, … that’s understandable. But, your interest are aligned unfortunately. But you doing good, you doing well helps the team doing well. … It helps increase your value so that if you do want to go to another team, they don’t wanna trade for you instead of you getting cut, … then signing you to a much lower deal and it will take you a lot more time to make the same amount of money if you were able to stay on the contract you were on.”

The 49ers drafted Brandon Aiyuk with the 25th overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft. He quickly became a key player on the offense. During the 2023 season, he tallied 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns receiving.
In August 2024, the 49ers gave Aiyuk a four-year extension worth $120 million. However, the team has decided to void around $26 million in guaranteed money that he was supposed to make in 2026, raising questions about his future with the franchise.
49ers coach Kyle Shanahan shares his honest thoughts on Brandon Aiyuk’s contract situation
On Saturday, after Kyle Shanahan confirmed that Aiyuk’s 2026 guaranteed money was being voided, he called the situation “unusual”.
The 49ers coach also said that this was the first time in his coaching career that he’s come across such a situation.
“I’ve been coaching over 20 years, and I’ve never seen a situation where a contract’s been voided,” Shanahan said as per ESPN. “It takes a lot of things to get a contract voided. I’ve never dealt with that in my career and been in any building that’s had that. It was unusual. But that’s stuff that I can’t get into right now.”
Shanahan also revealed that Brandon Aiyuk has not been given the green light by the medical staff to return to the field.
The 49ers (8-4) will next face the Browns (3-8) on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
