Texas Democrats’ provocative remarks spark debate on future of judiciary
A controversial new call to action is emerging from the progressive wing of the Democratic Party. At the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival, Democratic Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett demanded that her party pack the Supreme Court if they regain control of the federal government, a move she argues is necessary to combat what she described as a “crooked Supreme Court” and “evil minions.”
Crockett’s fiery speech centered on the idea that Democrats must go beyond simply not causing harm and actively work to “do some good.”

She painted a picture of a nation where “evil and unqualified” individuals are breaking systems and hurting people. In response, she said, “The least we can do if people trust us is if we get in and do half as much to help people.”
The congresswoman’s demands are not limited to the judiciary.
She also called for her party to “get bold” on ethics for the Supreme Court, voting rights, and the filibuster.
She directly connected the lack of progress on these issues to her party’s inability to pass key legislation, stating, “The reason right now, they are trying to go through Texas and take seats is because we didn’t pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. The reason Elon was able to buy this election is because we didn’t pass the Freedom to Vote Act.”

Crockett’s rhetoric shows a deep frustration with the current political climate and a judiciary she believes is actively working against her party’s interests.
She claimed, “We allowed them to play us on the Supreme Court, so we got this crooked Supreme Court, and so I don’t expect too much help from the Supreme Court on these seats.”
Her comments suggest a growing desire among some Democrats to take aggressive, unilateral action to achieve their policy goals, even if it means upending long-standing political norms.
This sentiment is further underscored by her call for voters to hold politicians accountable by asking, “What are you gonna do for me?”
