With This Week’s AFC Honor, Mahomes Is Poised to Attempt Something No Quarterback in Chiefs History Has Ever Done.QQ
Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes has earned AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors for the second time during the 2025 NFL season. He first earned the honor back in Week 4 against the Baltimore Ravens, marking his first player of the week honor since 2023. This second award now sets the table for No. 15 to do something he’s never done before in his career.
Mahomes completed 22-of-30 pass attempts against the Detroit Lions (73.3 percent) for 257 passing yards, totaling four touchdowns (three passing TDs, one rushing TD) and no interceptions with a 132.2 passer rating. His performance was the only four-touchdown performance by a player in Week 6.

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes’ AFC Offensive Player of the Week Quick Facts
- This marks the fifth time that Mahomes has won the AFC Offensive Player of the Week at least twice in a single season.
- Mahomes has now won the AFC Offensive Player of the Week award 12 times (2018: Weeks 1 & 2, 2019: Week 2, 2020: Weeks 3 & 8, 2021: Weeks 1 & 10, 2022: Weeks 1 & 4, 2023: Week 12, 2025: Week 4 & 6).
Mahomes’ latest win means he has now passed Giants QB Russell Wilson for the fourth-most Player of the Week awards among active NFL quarterbacks. He trails only Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers (19), Bills QB Josh Allen (16), and Ravens QB Lamar Jackson (13).
A third AFC Offensive Player of the Week would give Patrick Mahomes a career-first
Despite having the fourth-most Player of the Week awards among active quarterbacks, Mahomes has never won the award more than twice in a single season. Josh Allen won it three times in 2024 and 2022. Justin Herbert also won it three times in a single year in 2021. Lamar Jackson won it five times in a single year back in 2019. With 11 games left to be played this season, Mahomes will have 11 more opportunities to win the AFC Offensive Player of the Week award. Knowing that he’s just getting Rashee Rice back in Week 7 against the Las Vegas Raiders, Mahomes will have a chance to continue improving the offense, stacking wins, and earning weekly awards.
