Philadelphia Eagles safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson has found a new home in the NFL after being released by the Houston Texans last month.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Chicago Bears signed Gardner-Johnson to their active roster on Tuesday morning.

It’s a great move for the Bears, who have multiple starters banded up in their secondary.

The move marks Gardner-Johnson’s fourth NFL team that he’s played for since last season ended. He will, however, reunite with Chicago defensive coordinator Dennis Allen, who previously coached him during their time together in New Orleans.

The Eagles clearly had no plans to bring back CJ Gardner-Johnson

Gardner-Johnson did a solid job with the Eagles last fall, but they clearly had no plans to bring him back.

Instead, the Eagles traded Gardner-Johnson to the Texans for offensive guard Kenyon Green. They also swapped draft picks, with Philadelphia receiving a 2026 fifth-round pick and Houston receiving a 2026 sixth-round pick.

Head coach Nick Sirianni only further proved that the Eagles wiped their hands with CJGJ when he was asked about bringing the veteran safety back following last month’s release and answered the question by hyping up his current safeties room.

“Ya know, I really am excited about the room that we have,” Sirianni said. “I think they’ve done a really nice job to date. [We have] a good young player in Andrew Mukuba, who continues to get better. And I think that having Reed [Blankenship] next to him is helping him get better. And just how Reed got better having Marcus Epps in the building and Reed has said that before. Just really excited about that room. Sydney [Brown] is doing a really good job on special teams and doing some work on defense as well. And so, I’m really excited about that group and pleased with that group.”

The Eagles will see CJGJ again in Week 13 when they face the Bears, assuming he doesn’t stir up another locker room before then.
