The Internet Explodes Over Vince Gill and Jimmy Kimmel — Did the Country Legend Really Storm Off Live TV?.LC
In late 2025, country musician Vince Gill got into an argument with comedian Jimmy Kimmel during an episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” which ended in him storming off set.
A rumor that circulated online in October 2025 claimed that country musician Vince Gill had stormed off the set of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” after having an argument with the show’s host. Snopes readers emailed us to ask whether the rumor was true.
For example, on Oct. 1, 2025, the Facebook page Together We Rise posted (archived) the story. The post displayed images of Kimmel and Gill supposedly yelling at each other. The story began, “Late-Night Explodes: Vince Gill Just DESTROYED Jimmy Kimmel On Live TV — The Clip Everyone Is Talking About .”
Other Facebook users also shared the same claim. Some of those posts featured links in top comments leading to articles hosted by advertisement-filled WordPress blogs.
The story about Kimmel amounted to fiction, however.
Searches of Bing, DuckDuckGo, Google and Yahoo found no news media outlets reporting about Kimmel and Gill’s supposed spat. Prominent news media outlets would have widely reported this rumor, if true. Additionally, Gill was not listed on any of the lineups for recent episodes of Kimmel’s show. Gill’s IMDB page revealed he had appeared on Kimmel’s show only once, in 2011.
Whoever authored the story fabricated the entire tale, aiming to earn advertising revenue on websites linked from the aforementioned Facebook posts. Kimmel was likely targeted because of the recent suspension and reinstatement of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” following the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
An examination of the Together We Rise page’s stories found multiple indications of artificial intelligence-generated images and text. For example, regarding the image included in the post above, the Sightengine AI-detection website found a 99% probability that someone “likely” generated the image with AI. (Research shows AI-detection software is imperfect. Readers should consider the tools’ results with skepticism.) Signs of AI featured in the photo included uncharacteristically smooth skin on both Kimmel and Gill and a perspective implying that the right side of Gill’s face was completely caved in.
Snopes contacted a manager of the Together We Rise Facebook page to ask about the fictional stories displayed on the feed. We received a message back in Spanish thanking us for contacting the page. We will update this story if we receive more information.
