Unprecedented Plea—Israeli Hostage Families Urge Nobel Committee to Honor Trump for Peace Efforts.NN
The families of the captives remaining in Gaza called on the Norwegian Nobel Committee on Monday to award President Trump with the Peace Prize over his work to secure a hostage exchange deal.
The Hostages and Missing Families Forum sent a letter to the committee touting Trump as a worthy recipient for the Nobel Peace Prize for the current deal on the table, which seeks to free the remaining 48 hostages and end the war in Gaza.
“At this very moment, President Trump’s comprehensive plan to release all remaining hostages and finally end this terrible war is on the table,” the group, which represents the majority of the hostages’ family in Israel, said in the letter.
“We strongly urge you to award President Trump the Nobel Peace Prize because he has vowed he will not rest and will not stop until every last hostage is back home,” the letter adds.
The forum noted that Trump has been a key figure in saving the hostages, noting the US-brokered cease-fire deal that freed dozens of hostages between January and February.
“From the moment of his inauguration, [Trump] brought us light through our darkest times,” the group said.
“In this past year, no leader or organization has contributed more to peace around the world than President Trump. While many have spoken eloquently about peace, he has achieved it,” the forum added.
The group’s letter was sent just days before the committee is set to announce this year’s Peace Prize laureate on Friday.
Trump and his allies have made it clear that the president wants to receive the prize, an award he has coveted since his first nomination in 2018.
In July, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu nominated Trump for the award over America’s role in attacking Iran’s nuclear program during the 12-day war and establishing the cease-fire that ended the conflict.
The White House also touted Trump as having ended seven conflicts so far, including between: Israel and Iran, Rwanda and Democratic Republic of the Congo, Armenia and Azerbaijan, Thailand and Cambodia, India and Pakistan, Egypt and Ethiopia and Serbia and Kosovo.
