Two Mariners Pitchers From the 2025 Roster Are Reportedly Headed to New Teams .MH

Former Seattle Mariners relievers Caleb Ferguson and Gregory Santos each found new homes on Tuesday.

Ferguson, a lefty acquired by Seattle before this year’s trade deadline, agreed a one-year deal with the Cincinnati Reds pending a physical, The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal first reported. Santos, a right-hander, inked a minor-league deal with the San Francisco Giants, Mike Rodriguez first reported. Neither deal had officially been announced as of Wednesday afternoon.

Francys Romero reported Santos’ deal includes a $1.3 million salary if he makes the major league roster.
Ferguson, 29, had an up and down stint with the Mariners. The southpaw posted a 3-2 record with a solid 3.27 ERA and 17 strikeouts to eight walks over 22 innings pitched in the regular season. However, he struggled in the postseason, surrendering three runs without recording an out during Game 3 of the American League Division Series and two runs over two innings in Game 3 of the AL Championship Series.

Ferguson was acquired by the Mariners in a July 30 deal that sent right-handed pitching prospect Jeter Martinez to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Santos, 26, will try to re-establish himself in the Giants’ organization following a disappointing two-year stint with Seattle in which he was rarely healthy.
After joining the M’s following a February 2024 trade that sent right-hander Prelander Berroa, outfielder Zach DeLoach and a 2024 Compensatory Round B pick to the Chicago White Sox, the hard-throwing bullpen arm pitched a total of just 14 1/3 innings over 16 appearances in a Mariners uniform. He had a 5.02 ERA and 1.67 WHIP with more walks (nine) than strikeouts (six).
The San Cristóbal, D.R., native was non-tendered by the Mariners in November.

Santos was previously in San Francisco’s organization from 2017-21 and pitched in five major league games as a Giant across 2020 and 2021.
