The Night a Louisiana Underdog Took the Stage — and Stole the Entire Show in Seconds. ML

Imagine being told you are not enough for American Idol, not once but twice, and still showing up anyway. That is John Foster’s story, and tonight at Boots on the Bayou in Gonzales, it feels like all of Louisiana is watching the payoff.

He is “Louisiana’s own,” a kid from Addis who drove forty-five minutes down the road to stand on the same festival grounds as Chris Stapleton and Riley Green. Earlier today, he walked on that stage at the Lamar Dixon Expo Center with the same rich, classic country sound that made him a Season 23 runner-up, and the crowd answered as if he had already been a headliner for years.

His new single, “Little Goes a Long Way,” is a honky tonk tune about how a small gesture or a small chance can change everything.

Boots on the Bayou is running all weekend, and the locals are calling it the place to be in Louisiana for country fans. John just turned that from a slogan into something real.

Before Louisiana started chanting his name at Boots on the Bayou, John Foster was just 18, walking onto the American Idol stage with nothing but a guitar and a classic Alan Jackson song. That first TV moment on national television showed the same rich, neo traditional country voice you hear in Gonzales. You can see Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood and Lionel Richie light up as they realize this quiet kid from Addis is the real thing.

That first Idol performance did more than win a standing ovation. It opened the door to the most famous circle in country music. Not long after, John carried that same old school voice onto the Grand Ole Opry stage in Nashville. He chose “Murder on Music Row,” a song that defends the kind of country he loves.
