UNCONFIRMED RUMOR: Alonso Has NOT Signed with the Braves.vc

The report that Pete Alonso has “landed” with the Atlanta Braves is a sensationalized rumor and a strong prediction by some outlets, but it is not yet a confirmed contract signing.

As of today, December 5, 2025, Pete Alonso is a free agent after officially opting out of the final year of his contract with the New York Mets. While the Braves are a prime candidate, the “Home Run Machine” has not yet finalized a deal with any team.

Why The Braves Are The Hottest Prediction

The reason this rumor is so persistent and has “shaken Atlanta” is that the fit between Alonso and the Braves is almost perfect on paper:

  1. Filling the DH Void: The Braves are expected to lose veteran Marcell Ozuna (who is also a free agent) after he provided a massive offensive presence at Designated Hitter. Alonso, who is open to spending time at DH and is coming off a massive 38 HR, 126 RBI season, is the ultimate upgrade for that spot.
  2. Protection for Acuña: Placing Alonso’s thunderous right-handed power behind Ronald Acuña Jr. in the lineup would create a protective shield for the former MVP. Pitchers would have almost no incentive to pitch around Acuña, which could lead to Acuña setting new records for runs scored.
  3. NL East Insult to Injury: Signing the Mets’ all-time home run leader and biggest star would be the ultimate power play by the Braves, weakening their division rival and solidifying their status as the dominant power in the NL East.

The Contract Obstacle

While the Braves are known for giving out long-term, team-friendly extensions, Alonso is seeking a large free-agent contract, reportedly looking for a deal in the range of 4-7 years and an Annual Average Value (AAV) between $28 million and $32 million.

The Braves would have to break from their usual financial strategy to sign him, but given their “championship or bust” window, analysts believe the move is worth the investment.
