On his Tuesday, October 21 show, Colbert ripped into the president, saying he had proof that the Trump administration knew how badly received the ballroom plans were, despite what the 79-year-old said.
The White House is currently without some of its East Wing after bulldozers came in and tore it down to make way for a new ballroom. This move has led to First Lady Melania Trump having to relocate her office, and the remodel is said to be costing $250 million.
In his monologue, Colbert called out Trump’s ballroom, saying, “Here [Trump] is talking about it this summer,” before showing a clip of the president.

In the clip, Trump remarked, “It’ll be near it, but not touching it. And pays total respect to the existing building, which I’m the biggest fan of. It’s my favorite.”
However, this isn’t true as demolition has started at the White House, so the 90,000 square-foot ballroom can be situated in the East Wing, with Colbert quipping, “So, that was a lie.”
Colbert then added, “Someone in his administration is clearly smart enough to know how bad this looks, because the Treasury Department is right next door facing the demolition, and Treasury has now told their employees not to share any photos of the construction.”
This is when Colbert accused Trump of not being “proud” of the construction work, saying, “Not generally something you’d instruct when you’re proud of what’s going on.”
The 61-year-old comedian also bashed POTUS’ partial demolition of the White House further, calling it “deeply unsettling,” adding, “We are not giving him the security deposit back.”
Following the release of more racist group chat messages from Republicans, Trump’s nominee for the Office of Special Counsel, Paul Ingrassia, was in the firing line as he boasted that he had “a Nazi streak in me from time to time.”
Colbert further poked the bear, telling his viewers, “Folks, there’s no such thing as a Nazi streak. You got any Nazi in you? You a Nazi.”
Ingrassia also said holidays like Martin Luther King Day and Juneteenth should be “eviscerated,” with Colbert replying, “What a weirdly violent way to talk about days. ‘Oh, give me 10 minutes alone with Memorial Day and I’ll give it something to remember!'”
