Braves Make Staff Change, Part Ways With Pitching Development Director Paul Davis
ATLANTA — The Atlanta Braves have officially parted ways with Paul Davis, their director of pitching development, multiple outlets reported Friday.
Davis, 61, joined the Braves organization in 2020 and has been a key figure in shaping the club’s modern pitching infrastructure. During his tenure, Atlanta’s farm system produced a new wave of talented arms, including Spencer Strider, Hurston Waldrep, Spencer Schwellenbach, and AJ Smith-Shawver — all of whom have made strides toward solidifying the Braves’ pitching depth for years to come.
A report from Baseball America’s Carlos Collazo credited Davis with helping refine the organization’s player development model, particularly its emphasis on biomechanics and analytics-driven instruction.
Meanwhile, The Athletic’s David O’Brien noted that this move is not expected to spark a major overhaul within the Braves’ player development or pitching departments, but rather reflects a strategic personnel shift heading into 2026.
Before joining Atlanta, Davis served in various roles with the St. Louis Cardinals and Seattle Mariners, including a stint as Seattle’s pitching coach in 2019. A former college coach with a reputation for blending traditional teaching with modern pitching science, Davis was widely respected throughout the baseball community for his player-first approach.
As of Friday evening, neither Davis nor the Braves had issued an official statement regarding the decision.
