The Green Bay Packers have season-long captains for the 2025 season, but a special occasion calls for a special honor, and Matt LaFleur’s team is making defensive end Micah Parsons an honorary captain for his primetime return in Dallas on Sunday night, per Jay Glazer of FOX Sports.
Parsons was traded by the Cowboys to the Packers just days before the start of the regular season. A month later, the three-time All-Pro is returning to Dallas — where he still has a home — to play his former team on “Sunday Night Football” from AT&T Stadium.
The Packers have seven season-long captains: quarterback Jordan Love, running back Josh Jacobs, tight end Tucker Kraft, defensive end Rashan Gary, linebacker Quay Walker, safety Xavier McKinney and linebacker/special teamer Xavier McKinney. Per Glazer, Parsons will join them on Sunday night, presumably for the opening coin toss.
Being an honorary captain doesn’t mean much in the grand scheme of a football game, but it will probably mean something to Parsons, especially after the Cowboys said they will not have a tribute to their former player on Sunday night.
Glazer said he actually played a small role in the Parsons trade when he informed Brian Gutekunst that the Cowboys were genuinely interested in making a trade after he visited Dallas, and the Packers general manager immediately got aggressive in completing the deal. On the Thursday before the start of Week 1 in the regular season, the Packers sent Kenny Clark and two first-round picks to the Cowboys for Parsons, who played for the Packers in the opener 10 days later.
Glazer also said Parsons invited Packers teammates and coaches to his home in Dallas after the team traveled to North Texas on Saturday. And Parsons said earlier this week that he still has a suite at AT&T Stadium, and he’s planning on it being filled with family and friends on Sudnay night.
Not to be forgotten, Clark — a nine-year veteran of the Packers — will be a honorary captain for the Cowboys.
