Jeremy Fowler drops a shocking Cowboys trade rumor that could completely transform their faltering defense overnight.QQ

The Dallas Cowboys are reportedly searching high and low on the trade market for help along the defensive side of the ball.

The Cowboys have been linked to interest in big names like the Las Vegas Raiders’ Maxx Crosby and the Cincinnati Bengals’ Trey Hendrickson, but neither one is available, according to reports. But the Cowboys’ quest to add an “impact defensive player” continues, per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, who shares the rumor that Dallas has “called around to several teams” during their search.

Fowler notes that defensive line (edge rusher included) and linebacker are all on the table, and acquiring a player from “any tier” of talent level is being considered.

Dallas Cowboys trade rumor from ESPN

“The Cowboys are looking for, I’m told, an impact defensive player,” he reported on Saturday. “The Cowboys, I’m told, have really called around to several teams, pretty much most of the league, to try to survey the market, see who could be available in that front seven.”

“Think defensive line, linebacker, so that’s why those Maxx Crosby rumors came up this week, although it looks like the Raiders are going to keep Maxx Crosby,” Fowler added. “But they’re looking high and low, really any tier, to see if they can get somebody to help them in the front defensively.”

The Cowboys currently sport one of the worst defenses in the NFL, so it’s no surprise they’re on the lookout for help on that side of the ball.

Dallas is giving up the most passing yards and third-most rushing yards per game and rank 30th in points allowed. The Cowboys have also mustered up only 15 sacks.

Meanwhile, the Cowboys sport one of the best offenses in the NFL. If Dallas can get its act together on the other side of the ball, the team has a chance to be really dangerous.

It’s clear the Cowboys could use both an interior defensive lineman and an edge rusher. Cornerback is another needy spot, especially after the ominous Trevon Diggs injury update from Stephen Jones on Friday.

Linebacker is a need, but the Cowboys’ solution might already be in-house with DeMarvion Overshown, who is close to returning.

Dallas has plenty of draft capital to pull off something big, with the team sporting a trio of first-round picks the next two years, including two in 2026.

How big the Cowboys go could depend on what they do the next two games and, of course, which players are actually available ahead of the deadline. That pool figures to get bigger the closer we get to Nov. 4.

Jerry Jones has said on multiple occasions that the Cowboys are open for business, so we’d expect at least one trade to get done before the deadline passes.
