It’s Not Just Another Concert—5 Hidden Details About Lukas Nelson’s Majestic Theatre Show You’ll Want to Know. ML

Singer-songwriter Lukas Nelson, son of country icon Willie Nelson and longtime leader of Promise of the Real, has officially embarked on a new chapter in his career with the release of his first solo album, American Romance, available now via Six Degrees Records.

Produced by Shooter Jennings, the 12-track collection represents a creative evolution for Nelson, blending folk, Americana, and alternative country influences. The record features guest vocals from Sierra Ferrell on “Friend in the End” and closes with “You Were It,” a song Nelson wrote at age 11 and originally featured on his father’s 2004 album It Will Always Be.

“I wanted to make a record that felt different,” Nelson said. “Promise of the Real was tied to Neil Young for a long time, and I love that music, but I needed the space to explore new ideas — to play softer, write differently, and experiment.”

Nelson, who divides his time between Nashville and Maui, describes American Romance as “a reflection of the traveling life.” He adds, “Movement has defined me. It’s what’s kept me from settling down, but it’s also what inspires my songs. It’s a romance that covers everything from joy to heartbreak.”

The album arrives as Nelson expands his creative footprint beyond music. He is currently developing a film project for which he has written more than 30 original songs with Nashville artist Ernest, and recently collaborated with Ben West and Laci Kaye Booth on a track he describes as “a blend of Radiohead and country.”

Nelson, a Grammy and BAFTA Award winner for his songwriting on A Star Is Born (2018), will support the release with a fall tour that includes a stop at Detroit’s Majestic Theatre on October 22.
