A Costly Blow or Clever Move? Cowboys Sideline a Veteran to Make Room for a New Weapon.QQ

The Dallas Cowboys made significant roster moves on Tuesday, activating wide receiver Jonathan Mingo from the injured reserve (IR) list after he missed the first seven games of the 2025 season due to a knee injury. To accommodate Mingo’s return to the 53-man roster, the team placed backup guard Trevor Keegan on the IR with a neck injury.

Mingo, a former second-round pick out of Ole Miss, joined the Cowboys via a midseason trade with the Carolina Panthers last year. His initial stint in Dallas was underwhelming, with only five receptions across eight games, leading some to label the acquisition a disappointment. However, Mingo turned heads during this year’s training camp, showcasing consistency and positioning himself as a strong candidate for the WR3 role behind stars CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens before suffering a strained PCL. Despite increased competition from KaVontae Turpin, who has excelled as a slot receiver, and Ryan Flournoy, who stepped up during Lamb’s injury, Mingo’s return could shake up the receiver rotation. He may take snaps from Jalen Tolbert if he recaptures his training camp form.
On the other side of the roster move, Trevor Keegan, a fifth-round pick out of Michigan in 2024, was placed on IR. Keegan, who won a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles as a rookie and an NCAA National Championship with Michigan in 2023, had a limited role in Dallas. After being claimed off waivers from Philadelphia in August, Keegan appeared in two games for the Cowboys, logging 18 snaps, 12 of which were on special teams.
The Cowboys’ offensive line, which has faced injury challenges this season, is showing signs of recovery. Right guard Tyler Booker returned in Week 7, and starting center Cooper Beebe is set to have his 21-day practice window opened on Wednesday, signaling his imminent return.
Mingo’s activation adds a dynamic element to an already potent Cowboys offense, and his impact could be felt as early as the upcoming games. With the offensive line regaining strength and new weapons emerging, Dallas is poised to make waves as the season progresses.
