HOME RUN FOR HARLEM: CC Sabathia Turns Dilapidated Field into $11 Million “Field of Dreams”.vc

NEW YORK, NY — Yankees Legend CC Sabathia has hit a home run for the community, unveiling a stunning $11 million sports complex in Harlem, transforming a once “dilapidated” field into a vibrant, state-of-the-art facility for the city’s youth.

Sabathia, through his PitCCh In Foundation, partnered with Mayor Eric Adams and the NYC Parks Department to complete the massive revitalization project, now officially known as the “Harlem Field of Dreams.” This investment is a key component of the city’s broader public safety strategy, aiming to keep young people safe and engaged through sports programming.

The $11 Million Transformation

The complex is located at the Brigadier General Charles Young Playground in North Central Harlem and is set to open in Spring 2026.

  • Project Location: Brigadier General Charles Young Playground, North Central Harlem.
  • Total Cost: $11 Million (funded by law enforcement asset forfeiture funds, the PitCCh In Foundation, MLB, MLBPA Youth Development Fund, and city offices).
  • Size: A 150,000-square-foot facility, among the largest athletic fields in New York City.

Key Features of the Complex

The renovation goes far beyond a simple facelift, providing a world-class space designed to serve over 800 young athletes:

  • Multi-Sport Synthetic Turf: The new surface accommodates five different sports:
    • Baseball/Softball
    • Soccer
    • Football
    • Lacrosse
  • Modern Amenities:
    • Improved drainage and water detention.
    • New fencing, backstops, benches, and dugouts.
    • New drinking fountains and a sports mister (for cooling during hot days).
  • Community Programming: The complex will host free youth sports programming, including the city’s Saturday Night Lights initiative, which provides safe spaces for play while building trust between the community and law enforcement.

“Giving back has always been at the heart of everything I do,” said CC Sabathia. “Through the PitCCh In Foundation, we’re proud to support spaces that empower young people to dream, grow, and thrive. This field represents opportunity, resilience, and community.”

Sabathia’s work with the “Harlem Field of Dreams” underscores his commitment to the city that became his second home, leaving a legacy far more valuable than his World Series ring.
