Green Bay Might Be Plotting the NFL’s Next Blockbuster Trade—A Proven 4,100-Yard Talent to Ignite Jordan Love’s Attack

The Green Bay Packers have made bold moves to redefine their franchise, most notably with the blockbuster trade for superstar defensive end Micah Parsons, followed by securing him as the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. With head coach Matt LaFleur steering a potent offense and a defense now ranked fifth in the league according to PFSN’s Defense Impact, the Packers are positioning themselves as legitimate Super Bowl contenders. However, their 3-1-1 record through the first six weeks of the 2025 season reflects a team with flashes of brilliance marred by inconsistent performances. While the defense has largely been stellar, the offense could use a spark to elevate the team to the next level. One analyst believes a strategic trade could provide just that.

A Defense on the Rise, but Offense Needs a Boost
The addition of Micah Parsons has transformed Green Bay’s defense into one of the NFL’s elite units. Outside of a rough outing against the Dallas Cowboys, where they surrendered 40 points, the Packers have been dominant, holding opponents to 18 points or fewer in every other game. This defensive prowess has given the team a strong foundation, but the offense, while effective, lacks the explosive playmaking needed to consistently compete with the league’s top teams.
Josh Jacobs, who joined the Packers from the Las Vegas Raiders, has been a reliable workhorse in the backfield. His 2024 Pro Bowl season, which included 1,329 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns, solidified his role as a cornerstone of LaFleur’s system. However, as PFSN analyst Cameron Sheath points out, Jacobs excels in consistency rather than game-changing explosiveness. To address this, Sheath proposes a bold trade target: New York Jets running back Breece Hall.
Why Breece Hall?
Breece Hall, a 2022 second-round pick, has emerged as one of the NFL’s most dynamic running backs, amassing over 4,100 yards of offense and 22 total touchdowns in 46 career games. Despite his production, the Jets, mired in an 0-6 start to the 2025 season, have yet to offer Hall a contract extension. With significant cap space tied up in stars like Sauce Gardner and Garrett Wilson, New York may be open to trading Hall for the right price.
Hall’s 2025 season stats—410 rushing yards through six games—edge out Jacobs’ 359 yards, though Hall has played one additional game. The real difference lies in their play styles. While Jacobs has yet to record a run longer than 19 yards this season, Hall has already notched three runs of 20 yards or more, showcasing his ability to break off big plays. Sheath argues that pairing Hall with Jacobs could transform Green Bay’s ground game, adding a “home-run threat” to complement Jordan Love’s deep passing attack.
“While Jacobs remains a key component of Matt LaFleur’s offense, Green Bay can lack explosive plays if it’s not a deep shot from Love,” Sheath explains. “Jacobs would still be the lead back, but pairing him with Hall would add a home-run threat to the Packers’ ground game, with the team eyeing a Super Bowl in the short term.”
A Shift in Philosophy
Historically, the Packers have been conservative when it comes to trades, preferring to build through the draft and free agency. However, the acquisition of Parsons signals a shift in the franchise’s approach, reflecting a sense of urgency to capitalize on their current window of contention. With Jordan Love emerging as a franchise quarterback and a defense now anchored by a generational talent in Parsons, Green Bay is under pressure to maximize their roster’s potential.
Trading for Hall would not only enhance the offense but also align with the team’s newfound willingness to make splashy moves. While the Jets’ asking price for Hall remains unclear, their dismal start to the season could make them more amenable to a deal, especially if they prioritize future cap flexibility and draft capital.
The Path to a Super Bowl
The Packers’ 3-1-1 start shows they are close to being a complete team, but the margin for error in the NFC is slim. Adding a dynamic playmaker like Breece Hall could provide the offensive spark needed to complement their elite defense and push them over the hump. By pairing Hall’s explosiveness with Jacobs’ reliability, Green Bay could create one of the most versatile backfields in the NFL, giving Jordan Love the support he needs to lead the team deep into the playoffs.
As the trade deadline approaches, all eyes will be on Green Bay to see if they double down on their aggressive approach. If Sheath’s prediction comes to fruition, the Packers could solidify their status as a true Super Bowl contender, ready to take on the NFL’s best with a revitalized offense and a dominant defense.
