As the Kansas City Chiefs start their 2025 season 2-3, the worst they have started a season in a very long time, it’s important to remember where the Chiefs come from. Sure, they’re the dynasty, but things weren’t always sunshine and rainbows. In fact, they have a pretty embarrassing playoff loss just before the start of the dynasty.
And now, it may be even more embarrassing after a new wrinkle was revealed.
“I’ve been in multiple offenses. When we had Terry Robiskie (Titans OC), he would give us nothing,” former Titans center Ben Jones said on 104.5 The Zone in Nashville, Tennessee. “He literally just said, ‘Y’all go play.’ And we would be like, ‘What is going on?’ It was just like turn off the mic, y’all have fun, boys. The playoff game against the Chiefs (2017), when we came back and won, we got no play call the whole second half from Robiskie… Me and Marcus (Mariota) called the whole second half.”

The Chiefs lost a playoff game to the QB and C playing the OC role
You may all know that game as the one where Marcus Mariota, in his third season, threw a pass to himself for a touchdown, beating the Chiefs in Arrowhead Stadium in the Wild Card Round. That part sucked for Chiefs fans, and it felt like with Alex Smith, they could just never get over the hump.
It has to feel a little worse now knowing that Mariota and Ben Jones, the former center, called every single play for the Titans, not their offensive coordinator. That can’t be easy for anyone, let alone a quarterback in his third year who’s playing one of the hardest road games you could ever play in your career. And, they won that game.
