Former Brewers Closer Devin Williams Takes a Subtle Shot at Yankees Fans After Revealing His Career Decision .MH

Former Milwaukee Brewers star closer Devin Williams is changing his MLB address, as he goes from one New York team to another.

After just one season with the New York Yankees, Williams has decided to take his talents to Queens, signing a three-year contract worth $51 million with the New York Mets, completing a return to the National League.

Williams’ departure from the Bronx has also sparked a lot of heated reaction from Yankees fans, which he seemingly addressed in a recent post on Instagram.Ezoic

“For a bunch of people that didn’t want me back on your team, y’all sure are mad in the DM’s,” wrote Williams.

Former Brewers star reliever in a new environment – again

The two-time All-Star had a topsy-turvy stint with the Yankees. While he sometimes flashed the dominant form he had been known for during his tenure with the Brewers, Williams posted a career-worst 4.79 ERA and just an 85 OPS+. He went from a 1.1 HR% in his final season with Milwaukee in 2024 to 1.9 HR% with the Yankees.

His BABIP also rose from .250 to 2.99. Moreover, he struggled with suppressing the power of opposing bats, as underscored by a 35.7 hard hit percentage, the worst in his career by far.

Still, a new environment could spark the return of Williams’ top form.

Interestingly enough, the Mets were the last team faced by Williams in a Brewers uniform, when he gave up a crushing home run to New York star Pete Alonso in a National League Division Series matchup in 2024.
