Fame Took Him Far, But Tyler Childers’ Journey Back to Lexington Reminds Everyone What “Real Country” Still Sounds Like. ML

Tyler Childers to Headline 2026 Railbird Music Festival in Lexington, Returning Home for a Landmark Performance
The 2026 Railbird Music Festival lineup has officially dropped — and Kentucky fans have reason to celebrate. Homegrown country and Americana powerhouse Tyler Childers will return to headline the beloved Lexington festival, marking yet another milestone in his storied career and deep connection to the Bluegrass State.
Festival organizers confirmed Monday that Childers will lead the bill for the two-day event, set for June 6–7, 2026, at The Infield at Red Mile, Lexington’s historic racetrack-turned-concert venue. This year’s appearance will mark his third performance at Railbird, following a breakout debut in 2019 and a commanding headlining set in 2023.
A Kentucky Legend Comes Full Circle
For Childers, the homecoming carries special meaning. Born and raised in Lawrence County, Kentucky, the 33-year-old singer-songwriter has built a reputation as one of the most authentic and boundary-pushing voices in modern country music. His songs — steeped in Appalachian storytelling and spiritual honesty — have made him both a critical favorite and a fan hero across genres.
Childers began writing songs at just 13 years old, performing in local bars and community halls long before he turned 21. His breakthrough came with the 2017 album Purgatory, produced by Sturgill Simpson and David Ferguson, which catapulted him from regional fame to national stardom. The record’s blend of country, bluegrass, and raw poetic grit earned widespread acclaim and established Childers as a defining figure of modern Americana.
Since then, Childers has released seven studio albums, received seven Grammy nominations, and cultivated one of the most loyal fan bases in country music. His 2023 single “In Your Love” became a crossover hit, reaching the Top 10 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart and earning three Grammy nods, including Best Country Song. Another standout, “All Your’n,” was nominated for Best Country Solo Performance at the 62nd Grammy Awards — a tender track written for his wife, fellow artist Senora May.
Festival Royalty Returns
Railbird has long been a favorite stop for Childers, whose festival resume includes Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Newport Folk Festival, Merlefest, and the Grand Ole Opry. He’s also sold out some of Kentucky’s most iconic venues, including Rupp Arena and Kroger Field, cementing his reputation as both a local hero and a national star.
Just last September, Childers performed at Healing Appalachia, a benefit concert in West Virginia supporting addiction recovery efforts across the region — a cause close to his heart. Before returning home for Railbird, he’s slated to embark on an early 2026 European tour, with stops in Dublin, Amsterdam, and Berlin.
A Star-Studded Weekend in Lexington
Railbird 2026 promises to be one of the biggest editions yet. Joining Childers on Sunday’s lineup are Zach Top and Ella Langley, two fast-rising country artists making waves with their throwback sound and electrifying live performances.
The festival’s opening day, Saturday, June 6, will be headlined by indie-folk chart-toppers The Lumineers, setting the tone for a weekend that will span genres — from Americana and rock to modern country and roots revival.
Other announced acts include Caamp, Mt. Joy, and a roster of yet-to-be-revealed performers expected to bring even more star power to the three-stage event.

A Festival with Kentucky Soul
Since its debut in 2019, Railbird has grown into one of the country’s premier boutique music festivals, blending Southern charm with world-class production. After pandemic-related pauses in 2020 and 2022, the event found a permanent home at Red Mile in 2023 — a venue that allows the festival to merge music, horse culture, and Lexington’s vibrant community spirit.
Last year’s edition drew tens of thousands of fans and featured headlining performances by Lainey Wilson and Jelly Roll. This year’s return of Tyler Childers — one of Kentucky’s most celebrated sons — promises to make Railbird 2026 not just another festival, but a homecoming celebration of music, roots, and resilience.
