Cris Collinsworth finally spoke the truth everyone’s been whispering about the Chiefs’ shocking collapse.QQ

That about sums it up, sadly.

This isn’t a world many of us thought we would be living in, and so soon after the Kansas City Chiefs’ dominant run over the past 10 years or so. Yet, after a humbling loss to the Houston Texans on Monday Night Football, the reality of the situation is beginning to truly set in.
After quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw his third interception of the night, which wound up leading to a field goal and sealing the Texans’ win, NBC’s Cris Collinsworth had some sobering thoughts on the live broadcast.
“The faces of champions are really struggling to comprehend what is happening to this football season… [Tonight] was a breakdown across the board of the people that have made this franchise great over the past decade,” Collinsworth said, while discussing what he and Mike Tirico had just witnessed.
Cris Collinsworth sounded like he was ready to put the nail in Kansas City’s coffin
He also had this to say, and although it is short and simple, the words ring as true as ever:
“The season is being defined by miscues from the stars.”
It’s a sad reality, but it’s the truth. The Chiefs are exactly where they deserve to be, right now. This is a 6-7 team with only a measly 15 percent chance of making the postseason, according to the league’s official playoff picture and odds.
The loss to the Texans only further proved Collinsworth’s point. Watching Travis Kelce drop a pass, late in the game with everything on the line, is bad enough.
But, having that drop lead to a debilitating interception that wound up being the final straw in the game?
It’s absolutely brutal, and from the looks of it, Kansas City is headed towards an offseason with a whole lot more questions than answers.
Fortunately, this team is going to be one that still boasts the greatest quarterback in football. Critics can say what they want, but Mahomes is still Mahomes. Andy Reid is still an excellent head coach.
And this team has a lot of pieces in place.
But, fans are going to get real serious about the cries they’ve made over the past several months. There are holes that have yet to be permanently filled, and Brett Veach will have to face those questions head-on. He’s going to have to put in some serious work in order to help pick up the slack.
Though the sky feels like it’s falling this year, let’s remind Collinsworth it is, indeed, only one year. The Chiefs still have an opportunity to extend their dynasty with the right moves in their coming offseason, so it’s not “the end,” like many might be insinuating.
