Could Watching Saquon Barkley on Prime Video Have Played a Hidden Role in the Eagles’ Unexpected Downfall.QQ
What a frustrating night. The Philadelphia Eagles and Philadelphia Phillies did us all a disservice on Thursday evening. Both failed to show up in the clutch. The former is in a state of flux. The latter is eliminated from the postseason.
If the math is correct —and we believe it is —the Phillies had more hits and scored more runs than the Los Angeles Dodgers; Philadelphia hit more home runs. They struck out fewer times, drew more walks, and stole more bases, but they’re the ones who are going home.
The Birds… Well… What can be said about that Week 6 performance except for negative feedback? They were the better team and lost by three scores, but then again, it seems fair to ask an honest question. Are the Eagles better than the Giants? It is indeed hard to make that argument now.
Prime’s release of the Saquon Barkley documentary now seems like a poorly-timed idea.
It seemed there was bad mojo all over this game, even before its kickoff. Prime Video released a Saquon Barkley documentary on Thursday, hours before the game began.
Its story was what we would expect and what we were promised: details of the years leading up to his defection from the New York Giants. Something tells us that releasing this story on the same day Philadelphia was set to face their long-time rival wasn’t an accident.
But now it seems less timely and more of a bad omen we should have seen coming. Barkley and his Eagles teammates leave MetLife Stadium as losers of their second straight game.
It seemed like a good idea at the time. The reigning Offensive Player of the Year would share his documentary on a day he and his Eagles teammates were expected to roll over his former team. Instead, it was the Eagles who were embarrassed.
Jaxson Dart and Cameron Skattebo outplayed Saquon Barkley and Jalen Hurts. Philadelphia was beaten thoroughly, and we’re left with more soundbites from A.J. Brown and complaints about an unimaginative offense from Lane Johnson.
To his credit, rather than describe the first game of Week 6 as a duel between running backs, Skattebo instead described Thursday night as another chapter in Eagles vs. Giants. He gets it. Well done by the rookie there, but even though Philadelphia has owned this rivalry as of late, if the newest meeting was any indication, the Birds and Big Blue may again become one of pro football’s premier rivalries.
