Brian Schottenheimer quietly hints the Cowboys could lose a cornerstone star against the Lions, sparking sudden concern across Dallas.QQ

The Dallas Cowboys’ final injury report for Week 14 is out

The Dallas Cowboys will be looking for their fourth consecutive win when they take on a very banged-up Detroit Lions team on Thursday Night Football while on the road.
But while overall team health appears to favor the Cowboys, they could be down one of their most important players: Starting defensive end Jadeveon Clowney.
Clowney is dealing with a hamstring injury that kept him out of practice throughout the week and is listed as questionable on the Cowboys’ final injury report. He will be a game-time decision. However, comments made by head coach Brian Schottenheimer make it sound like Clowney is a long-shot to play.

“We’re going to take it up to gametime and see,” Schottenheimer told 105.3 The Fan. “As a veteran, he’s earned the right to do that. We’ll get him out there early before the game and see how he does. Hopefully he can play and if not, next man up type of deal. But [he is] playing great football right now.”
Maybe I’m overthinking it, but “he’s earned the right to do that” doesn’t sound encouraging for Clowney’s chances. Instead, it sounds like the Dallas staff is doing right by him by even giving him a chance. But with it being a hamstring injury and Clowney missing practice all week, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Dallas holds him to take advantage of the long week after Thursday’s game.
If Clowney is out, the Cowboys will miss him in two areas: Pass rush and run defense. The Lions are a team that likes to challenge defenses on the edges with the speed of Jahmyr Gibbs and Clowney has been one of the most consistent defenders containing runs.
Fresh off of a two-sack, two-TFL performance, Clowney would be missed against the Lions.
Trevon Diggs’ return delayed one week minimum
Despite expectations of Trevon Diggs returning to the field on Thursday, he has been ruled out by the Cowboys ahead of Week 14. Starting left tackle is also out and will miss his second consecutive game. Meanwhile, WR George Pickens carries no game designation and is off the injury report.
