Brewers Make a Power Move by Landing Jordan Montgomery in a Signing That Sends a Clear Message .MH

The Milwaukee Brewers have been a team brought up frequently in discussions this offseason, but not typically ones where they’re adding to the team. When people have brought up the Brewers and their offseason it has been about how they’ve been rumored to be looking to trade Freddy Peralta or Trevor Megill.

This has been the recipe for success for the Brewers in recent seasons, as Milwaukee has built a winning reputation due to their ability to constantly replenish assets through trades. While this is the case, and they had a 97-65 record last season, they still need to be looking at free agency to add to the team if they want to make it all the way to the World Series.

The Brewers won’t be big spenders, but they need to add to their pitching rotation this offseason to fill out the depth better. A signing they can look to make is Jordan Montgomery.
Milwaukee Brewers Sign Jordan Montgomery in 2026 MLB Free Agency
Jordan Montgomery ended up missing the entire 2025 season as he underwent Tommy John surgery. This was the second time he has had to have Tommy John surgery, with the first being in 2018.
Coming off a season in which he didn’t play has lowered his value a bit, but the last time he returned from Tommy John surgery, Montgomery was able to bounce back in 2021 when he got fully incorporated into the rotation again as he had a 3.83 ERA with 162 strikeouts and a 1.278 WHIP.

Before Jordan Montgomery had this injury, he had a 2024 season in which he posted a 6.23 ERA with the Arizona Diamondbacks. This is something that doesn’t look encouraging, but this will make it so where he won’t cost as much in free agency, which is where Milwaukee can capitalize.
Jordan Montgomery has shown the ability to pitch at a serviceable level when in a winning situation, like when he joined the Texas Rangers for their World Series run. If he can get back to that, he would end up being an ideal free agent for Milwaukee that they won’t have to overspend on.
