Braves Part Ways With Director of Pitching Development Paul Davis

ATLANTA — Multiple reports confirmed Friday that the Atlanta Braves have parted ways with Paul Davis, the club’s director of pitching development, ending his four-year tenure with the organization.

Davis, 61, joined the Braves in 2020 and played a significant role in shaping the franchise’s pitching pipeline during one of its most productive developmental stretches. Under his guidance, the organization saw the emergence of several key arms, including Spencer Strider, Hurston Waldrep, Spencer Schwellenbach, and AJ Smith-Shawver.

According to Baseball America’s Carlos Collazo, Davis’ impact on Atlanta’s minor league system was considerable, particularly in refining mechanics and approach across multiple levels of pitching instruction.

However, as The Athletic’s David O’Brien reports, the move is not expected to signal major structural changes within the Braves’ player development department.

Before joining Atlanta, Davis served in a variety of roles with the St. Louis Cardinals and Seattle Mariners, including a stint as Seattle’s pitching coach during part of the 2019 MLB season. A former college coach, Davis was known for blending traditional coaching techniques with data-driven pitching analysis.

Neither Davis nor the Braves have yet commented publicly on the decision.
