Whoopi Goldberg has a suggestion for politicians who are still getting paid amid the government shutdown: don’t take their salaries.

During an Oct 15 episode of “The View”, the Hot Topics discussion centered on press outlets refusing to sign the White House’s new requirements. That’s when host, Whoopi, made the suggestion.

Whoopi and her co-hosts applauded everyone who refused to sign, and Whoopi, 69, specifically loved that it signified “the press is recognizing that they are stronger together.”

“I want to make a suggestion, ’cause you know, we’re still in the middle of a shutdown,” Goldberg began. “I have a suggestion: I would like Republicans and Democrats to come together and decide they’re not going to take their salaries.”

The EGOT’s statement was met with applause with several of her cohosts chiming in that they agreed with her proposal.

“Because … until this affects you the way it’s affecting your constituents, y’all are not going to settle this. So as an American, I am asking that you not take a salary until you settle this,” she concluded.

Goldberg finished the segment by telling the crowd that she thinks “lots of people might feel the same way,” as the audience again applauded before the show went to a commercial break.

Currently hundreds of federal workers have either been furloughed or are working without pay. 

Whoopi Goldberg has been co-hosting ABC’s “The View” since 2007, making her the longest serving member on the successful daytime show’s panel.
