MarShawn Lloyd can’t catch a break. On Friday, the running back did not practice and had another injury complement his injury report status. Now, he’s officially out against the Denver Broncos this week, listed with both hamstring and calf issues.

MarShawn Lloyd is handling another tough situation

Lloyd, who missed most of his rookie season in 2024 due to hamstring injuries and appendicitis, suffered another hamstring injury in a preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts back in August.

Initially, that was his injury, and he went to external doctors to find the main reason of his frequent problems — still connected to a torn ACL he had in college, five years ago.

Green Bay finally opened Lloyd’s 21-day practice window back on Dec. 1, and he had been practicing for the past few weeks. Curiously, the hamstring wasn’t even mentioned on the injury report anymore — a calf injury was instead.

New problem

On Friday, though, a twist made the situation worse for Lloyd and the Packers. The running back did not practice, and the final injury report had him listed because of both calf and hamstring injuries. Ahead of practice, head coach Matt LaFleur had said that Lloyd’s status for the Denver Broncos game remained to be seen, but now the offensive player has been ruled out.

That means he won’t be activated off the injured reserve this week. The Packers have until Dec. 22 to make that roster move, otherwise he will be out for the remainder of the season.

MarShawn Lloyd was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the third round of last year’s draft. So far, he’s appeared in only one regular season game, with six rushing attempts for 15 yards and a reception for three yards.

Right now, the running backs on the Packers’ 53-man roster are Josh Jacobs, Emanuel Wilson, and Chris Brooks. The Packers don’t have to make any definitive decisions in regards to Lloyd, though, because he is not wasting an active roster spot and is under contract through 2027.
