A Legal Matter in Texas Puts George Strait’s Family Into the Headlines — Here’s What We Know So Far. ML

The son of country legend George Strait was hit with a lawsuit seeking over $100,000 in damages. The reason: A San Antonio design and construction firm accuse George Strait Jr. and his wife, Tamara, of refusing to pay for services and then ended their contract with a negative balance due to delays they allegedly caused.
Build Modern — a San Antonio firm responsible for several modern builds around the center of San Antonio — filed suit against George “Bubba” and Tamara Strait on May 5 in Kendall County just north of San Antonio. The trust supposedly funding the project, Heritage Oaks Trust, and its trustee Kalyn Carroll were also named.
Build Modern is seeking at least the $57,000 it claims is for unpaid construction services and $67,662 left in the contractual balance, totaling $124,662. However, the builder also wants the Straits and the trust to pay for costs accrued in the lawsuit and exemplary damages in an amount determined by a jury.
“In summary, Defendant Tamara Strait induced [Build Modern] to substantially complete the home remodel project and then directed the Heritage Oaks Trust to terminate the contract, in an improper (and obvious) attempt to avoid payment to [Build Modern] and prevent [the company] from completing the project,” the lawsuit reads.
According to the court filling obtained by MySA, Tamara Strait first met with the San Antonio firm folks back in September of 2024. The two agreed to have Build Modern run a remodel of a home purchased by the Straits in Boerne, about 30 miles north of San Antonio along I-10.

In total, the project was to cost $221,225, per Build Modern’s recount, and was expected to be complete by November 1 of 2024. However, the company says Tamara Strait made several decisions that delayed the completion, including ordering backordered cabinets that weren’t slated for delivery until December, reneging on a flooring with delayed delivery after it was already partially installed and hiring her own subcontractors that were supposed to be included in the contract with Build Modern.
“Tamara Strait engaged in a series of actions which resulted in economic damage to [Build Modern] and made it impossible for [the company] to complete the project in a timely manner,” the firm asserts. “Most importantly, she repeatedly delayed making payment when payment requests were presented to her.”
After allegedly failing to make several scheduled payments, reportedly hiring subcontractors out from under Build Modern and delaying the process, the lawsuit accuses the Straits of colluding with Heritage Oaks Trust to end the contract in December because the project exceeded the November 1 deadline. Build Modern says Tamara Strait was “fully aware” of the updated project timeline and why it had to be pushed back.

Ultimately, Build Modern is accusing the Straits and their trust of conspiracy, breach of contract and unjust enrichment. Tamara Strait specifically, though, is also being accused of fraud.
MySA reached out to Tamara Strait and Build Modern for comment but did not hear back by publication time. No contact information was available for George Strait Jr.
