Country vs. Reggaeton: The Super Bowl Showdown Sparking a Nationwide Petition War. ML
Los Angeles, CA — As Super Bowl LX approaches, fans are voicing their opinions on the upcoming halftime show, scheduled for February 8, 2026. A growing movement is calling for country music icon George Strait to replace current headliner Bad Bunny, sparking widespread debate.
A petition on Change.org advocating for the change has already amassed over 10,000 signatures. Initiator Kar Shell argued the halftime show should reflect American values and unite viewers across the country. “Bad Bunny represents none of these values,” she stated, citing his performances and style as “the opposite of what families expect on football’s biggest stage.”
At 73, George Strait remains one of country music’s most revered artists, celebrated for a career spanning several decades. Supporters of the petition believe his inclusion would create a more family-friendly atmosphere for the event.
The backlash follows the recent announcement of Bad Bunny as the official headliner. In response, Shell and others have publicly expressed concern, promoting an alternative that they feel better aligns with “traditional values.” While Shell’s petition has topped 10,000 signatures, a separate campaign supporting Strait has received over 1,300 signatures.
Bad Bunny, a chart-topping Latin Trap artist, addressed the controversy during a recent appearance on Saturday Night Live. Speaking directly to viewers, he remarked: “You have four months to learn Spanish.”
