Micah Parsons is officially out for the season. Tests on Monday confirmed the fear from Sunday, and the star edge defender tore his ACL. It’s at least a nine-month recovery, so beyond this season, the Green Bay Packers may be without their best defensive player to start next regular season as well.

Parsons shares a strong message

While it’s tough to lose such an impactful piece of the roster, the Packers can still feel good about the future with Parsons. On Monday, after the tests in his knee, the star player shared a heartfelt message on social media to show where his mind is right now.

The Lions have an easier path to winning the division than most people think…

The future is still bright

Micah Parsons is only 26 years old. He will be 27 when he gets back to action. When the Packers pulled the trigger on the big trade to acquire him from the Dallas Cowboys, that was part of the consideration.

While it was perceived as an all-in move from general manager Brian Gutekunst, it wasn’t an all-in move for 2025. He immediately signed a four-year extension, so Parsons is now under contract through 2029.

It’s an obviously sad outcome for a season where Parsons was playing at an elite level. You never want to see elite players missing time due to serious injuries. But that’s not the end for Micah Parsons’ story in Green Bay.

It’s normal that Packers fans will be particularly afraid of this injury because of what happened to left tackle David Bakhtiari five years ago. The ACL tear essentially ended his NFL career. But it wasn’t the ACL tear per se, it was the very unique circumstances that followed the initial injury that didn’t allow Bakhtiari to stay healthy.

Christian Watson tore his ACL in January, returned two months ago, and has played as well as he’s ever played. It’s a nine- or ten-month injury, and Parsons will miss what would be his first training camp with the Packers, but the chances of him getting back to his previous level of performance are high.

Meanwhile, the current version of the team has to keep its head up and try to salvage what now looks like a lost season.
