The whole of Hollywood and fans across the world are mourning the loss of actor Diane Keaton. The 79-year-old was known for her roles in movies like Annie Hall, Father of the Bride, The First Wives Club, and the Godfather trilogy. Apart from being an Academy Award winner, the actor was also known for her offbeat sense of humour and her chaotic interviews. Late night television host Stephen Colbert recently paid homage to her by playing an old interview he did with Keaton.
Recalling how much of a fan he was, Colbert revealed that he interviewed the actor as part of his Colbert Report series. At the time, Keaton was promoting her new book Then Again, but the two talked about everything but the book. She said, “Can I ask you something? Are you still running for president?” To which, Colbert replied, “Well never say never.” Keaton continued, “Well I just wanted to say that I am not going to vote for you. I don’t care that I have hurt you at all. The hug backstage was a little tricky, and I am brining you up on charges.”
Stephen Colbert tried to divert the topic and talk about Diane Keaton’s book. She stopped him midway, “This is the paperback version and it is coming out tomorrow.” Colbert hit back and said, “It is wonderful that this is paperback version, because it will be so easy to pulp. It won’t jam up the gears.” The two continued joshing around and making fun of each other, and at one point, Colbert said, “Before I encourage my viewers to by the book, you have to say one f****** thing about it.” Of course, that didn’t happen as chaos and laughter continued.

During the same episode of The Late Show, Colbert had Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter as guests, who were promoting their new play Waiting For Godot. Colbert asked Reeves whether he had any interesting anecdotes about working with Keaton on the 2003 film Something’s Gotta Give.
The actor replied, “I think everybody knows what an incredibly extraordinary, unique, special artist and person Diane was. It was cool for me, because I got to shoot a scene where Diane and Jack Nicholson were at this table in a restaurant in Paris. Just watching those two legends, not only react but insult each other. She would turn to Jack and just go, ‘You’re such a blah blah‘ and then Jack would respond. They were grinning but they were just insulting each other.”
