Plenty of Philadelphia Eagles fans have brought up that premise. You know that particular one. The concept of benching quarterback Jalen Hurts is back on a lot of timelines, so it is fair to expect that head coach Nick Sirianni was going to address it following the Eagles’ overtime loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday night.

In the defeat, Hurts threw four interceptions and turned the ball over five times in total. That being said, his head coach still has his back right now.

Nick Sirianni pours cold water on idea of benching QB Jalen Hurts

Regarding any sort of chance that Philly could make a quarterback change, Sirianni isn’t buying any of that. Instead, he is focused on finding ways to help the current starting group succeed on offense under the play calling tutelage of Kevin Patullo.

This shouldn’t really surprise anyone. Sirianni has seen Hurts win a Super Bowl MVP firsthand. He understands the work he’s put in alongside his teammates for them to become a perennial contender in the NFC recently. That being said, the offense’s lack of efficiency has some wondering if Tanner McKee could give the unit a bit more upside.

That’s an idea we just probably won’t learn much about this season. I wouldn’t expect Hurts to get benched, and outside of an injury, McKee seems like he will just remain the backup option for Philly. The coaches believe that there are other aspects of the offense that need to improve, not just the QB. That’s a fair assessment, but it is crystal clear that Hurts is not playing up to the level or showing nearly as much athletic prowess as years before.

No matter what – Sirianni isn’t wavering in his quarterback just yet. The Eagles have a fantastic opportunity to dominate offensively in Week 15 when they face one of the worst teams in football
