A Sunday ago, an injury to quarterback Aaron Rodgers forced the Steelers to start Mason Rudolph against the Bears—a substitution that will seemingly be short-lived.
Rodgers will have no injury designation and is set to return against the Bills on Sunday, Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin told reporters Friday, via Adam Schefter of ESPN.
The future Hall of Famer—who will turn 42 on Tuesday—fractured his left wrist and missed the Steelers’ 31–28 loss to Chicago. It was an unfortunate blip in an otherwise solid season for Rodgers, who has thrown 19 touchdowns against seven interceptions in 10 games this season.
Pittsburgh has a golden opportunity to take control of the AFC North following the events of Thursday, as the Bengals crushed the Ravens 32–14 to drop Baltimore to .500. The Steelers, at 6-5, have the worst record of the four AFC division leaders; three current wild-card teams in their conference have better records, including Buffalo.
Against the Bears, Rudolph completed 24 of 31 passes for 171 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Rodgers completed nine of 15 passes for 116 yards and a touchdown in his last game—a 34–12 win over Cincinnati on Nov. 16 that he left af halftime due to his injury.
