Given Another Shot by Vic Fangio and the Eagles, Kelee Ringo Squandered the Opportunity in a Crushing Loss to the Giants.QQ

The Eagles need to figure something out and fast.

Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio gave third-year cornerback Kelee Ringo another chance during Thursday Night Football, and he failed to live up to expectations in the team’s embarrassing 34-17 loss.

Ringo was targeted five times, allowing four catches for 73 yards and two penalties. What makes his performance even worse is that he couldn’t contain Giants wide receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey, who is on their practice squad.

It got so bad that the Eagles ended up benching Ringo in favor of moving Cooper DeJean to cornerback after Quinyon Mitchell left the game early with a hamstring injury.

Where Do the Eagles Go From Here?

Thursday night’s loss marked Ringo’s third chance this season to prove that he’s starting CB2 ready, and that was more than likely his last chance. So, now where do the Eagles go from here?

They don’t have many options on their active roster between Mitchell’s injury and Jakorian Bennett on the Injured Reserve. They’ve also already settled on Adoree Jackson, who isn’t much better than Ringo.

There is a chance they could turn to Parry Nickerson if they don’t look elsewhere. I think that makes the most sense, considering Nickerson’s previous experience before coming to Philly has mostly come on the outside.

Nickerson had initially tried out during the Eagles’ mandatory minicamp over the summer, where he took reps at outside cornerback and nickel cornerback. He continued to impress throughout training camp and the NFL preseason.

Unfortunately, Nickerson didn’t make the 53-man roster, but he did get signed to the practice squad before later joining the active roster ahead of Week 4’s win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

That game versus the Bucs was the first time in two years that Nickerson had seen any regular-season action. He played 14 snaps on special teams and three snaps on defense as the Eagles beat the Bucs 31-25.

Depending on what moves the Eagles make between now and their Week 7 game against the Minnesota Vikings, Nickerson could be on tap for a larger role as the Birds look to bounce back from two straight losses..
