‘The View’ shocks audiences by praising a GOP lawmaker as the unexpected voice of reason during America’s shutdown chaos.NH
The hosts of “The View” on Thursday surprisingly gave props to Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) after she called on House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) to bring the chamber back into session as the government shutdown rolls on.
Host Whoopi Goldberg tossed to a supercut of lawmakers arguing with each other that ended with a clip of the conspiracy-peddling Republican — who has broken with her party on expiring Obamacare subsidies — telling CNN’s Manu Raju that her colleagues need to “take off” their Democrat and GOP “jerseys.”
“We should do something responsible for the American people and fix this,” she stressed.
Goldberg, following several seconds of applause from the show’s crowd, said that Greene seems to be the “only one responding to her constituents.”
“Her constituents are saying, ‘Excuse me, we are being affected by what’s happening here,’” said Goldberg, in reference to concerns that the expiring Affordable Care Act subsidies will lead to health insurance premium hikes.
“And, you know, she’s in not a rich district. She’s in a poor district and her people said, ‘This is affecting us. Either you get us some help, or we’re going to put you out. This is your job,’ and she is the voice of reason here. What the hell is going on?”
Co-host Joy Behar noted that it’s a “very personal” matter for Greene, pointing to the congresswoman’s concerns that her children’s insurance premiums will double next year.
Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin, a former White House aide in President Donald Trump’s first term, echoed Goldberg’s comments.
“It’s a dark day when Marjorie Taylor Greene is the voice of reason,” she said.
