Two Chiefs Legends Could Make NFL History in the Same Game, and All Eyes Are on Sunday’s Clash With Detroit

Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce are one of the best quarterback-pass catcher duos of all time.

They have connected for the most touchdowns in NFL postseason history with 18. During the regular season, Kelce has caught 708 passes for 8,369 yards and 58 touchdowns from Mahomes during their careers. As the Kansas City Chiefs get set to host the Detroit Lions in Week 6, the two will both have the opportunity to move up the record book.

Patrick Mahomes can become fastest player ever to throw 300 touchdown passes

In the regular season and postseason combined, Mahomes has thrown 299 touchdown passes in 138 career games. Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers currently holds the record for fastest to 300, doing so in 147 career games.

It would be a shock if Mahomes doesn’t throw at least one touchdown pass against Detroit on Sunday night. If somehow he doesn’t, he’ll still have eight games to do so. He has thrown at least one in every game this season, including a four-touchdown performance against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 4.

Travis Kelce can pass Jason Witten for second-most receiving yards ever in primetime games

Kelce has posted 4,110 receiving yards in 54 career primetime games (7 p.m. ET start time or later). If he records at least 14 receiving yards against the Lions, Kelce will pass Witten (4,123) for the second-most all time in primetime matchups. He would then trail only Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice, who has a whopping 5,351.

Similarly to Mahomes, it would be surprising if Kelce didn’t secure that record on Sunday night. Kelce has only been held under 14 receiving yards four times throughout his 13-year NFL career. It’s possible that Mahomes and Kelce break their respective records on the same play, which would make for another cool moment for the duo.
