The future of the Padres is suddenly uncertain as John Seidler considers selling the franchise, leaving fans and insiders debating what comes next.NL

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The Padres may be up for sale as Chairman John Seidler is exploring strategic options to sell the franchise.
In a statement Thursday, Seidler said he and the family have “decided to begin a process of evaluating our future with the Padres, including a potential sale of the franchise.”

“We will undertake this process with integrity and professionalism in a way that honors Peter’s legacy and love for the Padres and lays the foundation for the franchise’s long-term success,” Seidler said. “During the process and as we prepare for the 2026 season, the Padres will continue to focus on its players, employees, fans, and community while putting every resource into winning a World Series championship. We remain fully committed to this team, its fans, and the San Diego community.”
Seidler’s brother Peter Seidler, who became the Padres’ primary owner in November 2020, died at 63 two years ago and was a beloved figure of the organization.

Sheel Seidler, the widow of Peter Seidler, filed a legal complaint in January against two of his brothers in a fight over who should control the Major League Baseball team. The complaint includes allegations that Robert (“Bob”) and Matthew (“Matt”), who were named as stewards to execute their late brother’s estate, had “misappropriated and misused” the assets left behind after his death in November 2023 for their own objectives.
However, Matthew Seidler said Sheel Seidler’s claims were “entirely untrue, and we will vigorously defend ourselves against them.”

The decision comes following “months of careful consideration and consultation with trusted advisors,” the Padres said in the statement.
