Dolly Parton reveals the exact day she starts decorating for Christmas, giving fans a rare peek into her festive routine. ML

Halloween is officially in the rear-view mirror, and that means it’s full speed ahead to Christmas. After all, Mariah Carey has officially defrosted. But is it too soon to pull out your Christmas decorations?
For some people, after the last trick-or-treater leaves the porch, the Christmas tree goes up. Studies show that decorating early can actually boost your mood, especially when the time changes. But others argue that Thanksgiving deserves its own time to shine and hold off on Christmas decorating until after the feast.
In times of indecision, we turn to our favorite moral authority and ask: What would Dolly Parton do? If you can’t decide if it’s time to deck the halls or hold off for a few more weeks, the queen of country music has shared her own thoughts on the matter.

In an interview with Cody Alan, Dolly explained her personal philosophy: “I put up my Christmas decorations the day after Thanksgiving.” She told Woman’s World, “The day after Thanksgiving, I turn all my lights on outside and all my lights on inside. I just love going to Christmas plays and all the things that. I love to ride around with the kids to see all the decorations in the neighborhoods.”
But perhaps more intriguing is her thoughts on when to take down the decorations. “I celebrate Christmas and Thanksgiving until my birthday on the 19th of January,” she said. “I always make them leave my decorations up ’till after my birthday, ’cause I am still celebrating.”

Dolly knows the power of Christmas magic. Smoky Mountain Christmas kicks off at her Dollywood theme park on November 1, with six million lights and dozens of Christmas trees. The celebration continues until January 4.
Whether you deck the halls the day after Halloween or wait for Black Friday, we’re confident Dolly would want you to do whatever makes you happy!
