ABC World News Tonight host David Muir returned to the network on Monday, following a brief hiatus, but the anchor’s comeback was met with a slew of heartbreaking news
Viewers of ABC’s World News Tonight experienced a mix of emotions as host David Muir made his return to the network after a brief break over the weekend.

The 51-year-old journalist’s comeback was marked by a series of distressing news, with one story in particular leaving viewers on edge. From his renowned ABC news desk, David informed viewers, “Back in the US tonight, there has been a workplace shooting, a standoff for hours, and word tonight that two supervisors have been killed.”
“Here’s Stephanie Ramos tonight,” the anchor added, transitioning to his colleague who was reporting live from the scene of the incident. It comes after Muir said ‘it’s been a heavy time’ as he admits being ‘in denial’ over huge exit.

Footage showed police officers assembling outside the location of the shooting, while Stephanie provided a voice-over detailing, “The 10th hours long standoff in Cleveland, Tennessee, after a deadly workplace shooting.”
A clip then played of what seemed to be a police officer providing an update on the situation, with a man’s voice stating, “Caller advised they heard a gunshot. They’ve got a female screaming.”
Stephanie went on to describe, “The horror unfolding shortly before 10:30 this morning, gunfire erupting at the Barku plastics plant just outside Chattanooga, two male supervisors shot and killed.”

Another police radio transmission was then captured, as the officer reported, “They’re advising suspect left in a black BMW, unknown direction of travel,” before the correspondent provided additional details to the unfolding story, “Police tracking the suspect, who is also an employee to what is believed to be his home just miles away, SWAT teams swarming the scene. Late today, authorities say the suspect was found dead.”
Stephanie wrapped up her coverage, informing David back in the studio that officials are still attempting to determine what motivated the man to open fire as they pursue their investigation.
The breaking news segment was posted to ABC World News Tonight’s Instagram account, with the caption, “A gunman opened fire at a plastics plant in Cleveland, Tennessee, killing two supervisors, authorities said. @thestephanieramos reports on the tense standoff involving the suspect.”
Viewers were swift to express their distress over the update, with one user commenting, “So much craziness. Come on people this is not America just stop this now.”

A second viewer wrote, “Thoughts and prayers,” while another person noted, “So many shootings in the last 3 days…. So very sad- Not a word from POSPOTUS.”
“What in the absolute f–k is going on??? Jesus Christ,” someone else questioned, prompting another viewer to respond, “Let’s get a count of mass shootings in the last two weeks!! It’s like there’s no gun control at all!!”
A sixth fan speculated, “Disgruntled former employee killed his two supervisors, identified as Tobias Glenig and Ivan Aldergot ( Company’ Vicepresident )…. Gun violence at workplace and the suspect is dead with self inflected gunshot…. Condolences, thoughts and prayers for the victims’ families and friends.”
