49ers Collapse in Houston: A Loss That Raises More Questions Than It Answers.QQ

The San Francisco 49ers visited the Houston Texans in Week 8 and lost 26-15. It was a game where the Texans completely dominated the time of possession. Houston had the ball for 41:22 minutes compared to only 18:38 minutes for San Francisco. Bryce Huff ‘s absence due to injury was also felt greatly. The 49ers failed to record a single sack or exert adequate pressure on CJ Stroud. The 49ers now have a 5-3 record on the season, and more injured players have been added to the injury list. All in all, it was a very difficult day for San Francisco. Houston only had to punt once late in the game.

Mac Jones started again due to Brock Purdy ‘s toe injury . Jones did his best in a game where he was constantly pressured by the Texans’ defensive line. Mac completed 19 of 32 passes for 193 yards and threw two touchdowns. Ultimately, he was intercepted in a desperate time for San Francisco’s offense as the game was almost over.

Kittle and Tonges Score

On National Tight Ends Day, George Kittle and Jake Tonges were the ones who scored touchdowns for San Francisco. Kittle caught a 17-yard pass from Jones for the score. Tonges, meanwhile, caught a two-yard touchdown pass from Mac. Incidentally, before Kittle’s touchdown, it was Brian Robinson Jr. who had an excellent kickoff return to the 50-yard line, but a Texans penalty put the 49ers in good scoring position before the half ended.

Lenoir Gets 49ers’ First Interception

San Francisco had gone 14 games dating back to last season without an interception. Deommodore Lenoir intercepted a Stroud pass, but even that didn’t work for San Francisco today because it came with just seconds left in the half. Lenoir was tackled, fumbled, and Mykel Williams recovered, but there was no time for the 49ers offense to get onto the field, and they looked to capitalize on Lenoir’s interception.

More Injuries

To add insult to injury, the 49ers’ injury list grew in addition to the loss. San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan announced after the game that Jordan Elliott hurt his ankle and was unable to continue playing. Dee Winters (knee) also failed to return, and Sam Okuayinonu (ankle) also left the game and was unable to return. Shanahan also said that Alfred Collins hurt his shoulder but was able to continue playing. As every week, further tests will be performed on the injured players, and hopefully none of these injuries are serious.

Next Opponent

The 49ers continue their road game next week when they face the New York Giants. That game also kicks off at 10 a.m. PT, 11 a.m. Mexico City time, and will be played next Sunday, November 2. The game can be heard in Spanish at 49ers.com/esp, on the official 49ers app, on W Radio, and on W Deportes.
