Cody Johnson Reveals the Heart Behind His Texas Ranch — A Legacy Meant to Outlast the Spotlight and the Sound of His Guitar.LC

Baby time is nearing for the Johnson family as they anxiously await the arrival of their third child, and first son, into the world.

Back in May, Cody Johnson and his wife, Brandi, shocked the ACM Awards red carpet by announcing they were expecting their third child.
Johnson is a girl, dad to two girls, Clara Mae and Cori, and often cuts songs for his daughters, like the heartfelt tune “C’mon Cowgirl.” And don’t get us wrong — Johnson loves being a girl dad — but he’s very excited to have a little boy joining the Johnson crew any day now.
Outside of his life on the road, Cody Johnson and Brandi Johnson have invested in property in Texas and are running cattle, raising horses, and raising children on this land. Now, as a ranch owner, Johnson is over the moon to be raising a child on a farm and nurturing them there. This summer, during an interview with SiriusXM’s The Highway, Johnson told host Cody Alan that he’s very excited to raise a little cowboy.
“I didn’t get to live the cowboy life for a long time. I had to kind of earn my way to the point where I could afford to say, ‘We’re gonna go buy a ranch and we’re doing this.’ So the fact that he’s gonna be born on, you know, into a cattle ranch, that’s gonna be cool, man.

He’s gonna be the little, I promise you, the little buckaroo riding around with six shooters on.”
However, during another interview with iHeart, Johnson shared that it’s more than raising a little buckaroo. He’s looking forward to having a partner to run their ranching operation with.
Johnson grew up riding bulls, but, as he said, participating in that sport does not make you a ranching cowboy. So he’s most excited about instilling that hardworking cowboy work ethic in his son and teaching him to become a successful farmer and rancher.
“Riding bulls is a far cry from being a successful cattle rancher or a horse breeder, like I am now. So he’s going to get the opportunity to grow up being a cowboy and working, actually growing up working Dad’s actual functioning ranch. He’s going to learn so much more about how to breed horses in what time, and how to put bulls on cows at the certain time, and what breeds does what, and how to make sure your coastal Bermuda grass grows on time so you can cut the hay on time. And all these different things that has nothing to do with a guitar.”

I’m sure Johnson’s little boy will inherit some of his musical talent, but he hopes that his children will appreciate the ranching legacy he and Brandi are building for them —a legacy that spans far beyond his musical achievements.
“That’s what I’m building in Texas… this is a legacy for Cody Johnson. What we’re doing right now is a legacy for Cody Johnson. But for the Johnson family, that legacy is going to be all those acres of land and all that stuff that is instilled, that I paid for with a guitar. But it will live on long after I’m not playing a guitar anymore. I think that’s the biggest deal for me, is to let my kids grow up that way.”
Land is a very valuable thing to pass down to your children, and it sounds like Brandi and Cody are doing their part to ensure the Johnson legacy lives on far beyond Cody Johnson’s music career.
The Johnson kids are some lucky buckaroos…
