đ„ BREAKING NEWS: Charli XCX Fans Are Convinced She Just Responded to Taylor Swiftâs âActually Romanticâ â And Theories Are Exploding âĄML

- Taylor Swift released her highly anticipated album, The Life of a Showgirl, on Oct. 3.
- Listeners were quick to speculate that her track, âActually Romantic,â might be a diss track pointed at Charli XCX, who is good friends with her alleged ex, Matty Healy.
- Fans are now convinced that Charli has subtly responded to the track with a recent social media post.
The brat is backâŠin the studio, that is. Charli XCX seems to be laying down some tracks a few days after Taylor Swift dropped The Life of a Showgirl, which may or may not include a diss track allegedly pointed at her. On October 5, Charli dropped a video from a recording studioâand, naturally, her followers thought she might be whipping up a response to Taylorâs song, âActually Romantic.â

Fans were quick to speculate that itâs about the âEverything Is Romanticâ singer and her song, âSympathy is a Knife,â thanks to lyrics like âI heard you call me âBoring Barbieâ when the cokeâs got you brave / High-fived my ex and then you said youâre glad he ghosted me / Wrote me a song saying it makes you sick to see my face.â
However, Charli working on a response miiiight be a reach, considering sheâs working on a ton of stuff right now. The Grammy winner is making music for Anne Hathawayâs upcoming A24 flick, Mother Mary, with Jack Antonoff, as well as Emerald Fennellâs upcoming adaptation of Wuthering Heights. Thereâs a chance the string arrangements in her clip could be part of one of those projects.
As for Taylor, she weighed in on the true inspiration behind âActually Romanticâ during Amazon Musicâs âTrack by Track Versionâ of The Life of a Showgirl.
ââActually Romanticâ is a song about realizing that someone else has kind of had a one-sided adversarial relationship with you that you didnât know about,â Taylor explained, in part. âAnd all of a sudden, they start doing too much, and they start letting you know that, actually, youâve been living in their head rent-free and you had no idea.â

âHow flattering that someone has made you such a big part of their reality and you didn’t even think about this,â she continued. âItâs actually pretty romantic if you really, really think about it.â
Itâs unclear where Taylor and Charli stand right now, but things seemed good between the pop pioneers as the â360â hitmaker debunked any feud rumors during her New York Magazine cover story in August 2024. (Yep, the same one where Taylor gushed about Charliâs songwriting chops.)
âPeople are going to think what they want to think,â she said of the track. âThat song is about me and my feelings and my anxiety and the way my brain creates narratives and stories in my head when I feel insecure and how I donât want to be in those situations physically when I feel self-doubt.â
