đŸ’„ BREAKING NEWS: Charli XCX Fans Are Convinced She Just Responded to Taylor Swift’s “Actually Romantic” — And Theories Are Exploding ⚡ML

  • Taylor Swift released her highly anticipated album, The Life of a Showgirl, on Oct. 3.
  • Listeners were quick to speculate that her track, “Actually Romantic,” might be a diss track pointed at Charli XCX, who is good friends with her alleged ex, Matty Healy.
  • Fans are now convinced that Charli has subtly responded to the track with a recent social media post.

The brat is back
in the studio, that is. Charli XCX seems to be laying down some tracks a few days after Taylor Swift dropped The Life of a Showgirl, which may or may not include a diss track allegedly pointed at her. On October 5, Charli dropped a video from a recording studio—and, naturally, her followers thought she might be whipping up a response to Taylor’s song, “Actually Romantic.”

Fans were quick to speculate that it’s about the “Everything Is Romantic” singer and her song, “Sympathy is a Knife,” thanks to lyrics like “I heard you call me ‘Boring Barbie’ when the coke’s got you brave / High-fived my ex and then you said you’re glad he ghosted me / Wrote me a song saying it makes you sick to see my face.”

However, Charli working on a response miiiight be a reach, considering she’s working on a ton of stuff right now. The Grammy winner is making music for Anne Hathaway’s upcoming A24 flick, Mother Mary, with Jack Antonoff, as well as Emerald Fennell’s upcoming adaptation of Wuthering Heights. There’s a chance the string arrangements in her clip could be part of one of those projects.

As for Taylor, she weighed in on the true inspiration behind “Actually Romantic” during Amazon Music’s â€œTrack by Track Version” of The Life of a Showgirl.

“‘Actually Romantic’ is a song about realizing that someone else has kind of had a one-sided adversarial relationship with you that you didn’t know about,” Taylor explained, in part. “And all of a sudden, they start doing too much, and they start letting you know that, actually, you’ve been living in their head rent-free and you had no idea.”

“How flattering that someone has made you such a big part of their reality and you didn’t even think about this,” she continued. “It’s actually pretty romantic if you really, really think about it.”

It’s unclear where Taylor and Charli stand right now, but things seemed good between the pop pioneers as the “360” hitmaker debunked any feud rumors during her New York Magazine cover story in August 2024. (Yep, the same one where Taylor gushed about Charli’s songwriting chops.)

“People are going to think what they want to think,” she said of the track. “That song is about me and my feelings and my anxiety and the way my brain creates narratives and stories in my head when I feel insecure and how I don’t want to be in those situations physically when I feel self-doubt.”
