The top two running backs on the Green Bay Packers’ depth chart, Josh Jacobs and Emanuel Wilson, are listed as questionable to play against the Denver Broncos on Sunday, but fans will wake up on Sunday with a positive update on both instances.

While it’s still not 100% certain they will play, NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero reported that Jacobs and Wilson are leaning toward playing in Denver.

Dallas pressure forces Vikings to adapt…

It’s a knee injury for Josh Jacobs

Pro Bowl running back Josh Jacobs has handled a knee injury for a month, since the New York Giants game in mid-November. The issue worsened after the Chicago Bears game last week, forcing Jacobs to miss practice on Wednesday and Thursday. He had a new MRI earlier this week, but his knee is structurally sound.

However, Jacobs returned to practice on Friday and, according to head coach Matt LaFleur, was feeling good ahead of the activity. Now, according to Pelissero, Jacobs is expected to play.

Emanuel Wilson was a late addition to the injury report

Wilson, who surpassed 100 yards when Jacobs didn’t play against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 12, was also added to the injury report on Saturday because of an illness. The Packers didn’t announce what it is.

Nevertheless, the backup running back will have to see how he feels on Sunday, but there is a positive perspective entering gameday.

On Saturday, the Packers elevated Pierre Strong Jr. from the practice squad to add depth to the offense. But if both Jacobs and Wilson can play, Strong would likely be inactive.

Impactful update for the offense

If Jacobs and Wilson play, especially the Pro Bowler, that could alter how Green Bay approaches the game. LaFleur always tends to want a balanced offense with some heavy doses of running the football, but that approach is particularly important against the Broncos.

Denver leads the NFL in sacks and has Patrick Surtain II in the secondary. Its defense is seventh in dropback EPA and 14th in rush EPA, so moving the ball on the ground is a big part of the plan to make Jordan Love more comfortable.

With Jacobs and Wilson on track to play, the offense has a better chance of executing the necessary game plan to be competitive against one of the best defenses in football.
