Toronto Blue Jays newly signed pitcher Cody Ponce went on the Baseball is Dead podcast and shared a touching story about how he ended up signing in Toronto.
Ponce has had quite the story after the last few years which led him to playing overseas and landing a Korean Baseball Organization MVP award and a new deal is the MLB.

Cody Ponce opens up about free agency and deal with the Blue Jays
During the interview, Ponce was asked about how he landed with the Blue Jays and the process he had with them throughout free agency.

Ponce told the podcasters that he got the call from his agent while on a run and that when he got back home and told his wife the size of the contract, her jaw hit the floor. Since Ponce and his agent were looking for exactly that size at $30 million over 3 years, he agreed right away as he did not see the point in negotiating.
Ponce made sure to mention during the interview how happy he is to be joining such a skilled team that is coming off a fresh trip to the World Series and came so close to winning.
The Blue Jays newest starting pitcher also added that he made some calls and asked a friend about how Toronto is to which he apparently heard nothing but incredible things.

Going into the off-season, there were no rumors about the Blue Jays and Ponce but it looks like both parties are extremely excited to get things going in 2026.
