š„ HOT NEWS: Taylor Ward trade transforms Oriolesā projected Opening Day lineup into a bold new look ā”.MH

Just over a week ago, the Baltimore Orioles decided to part ways with often-injured pitcher Grayson Rodriguez. They struck a deal with the Los Angeles Angels, sending Rodriguez their way and receiving Taylor Ward in return.

The trade was an immediate question mark as Baltimore already had a pressing need for pitching. Some fans believe they got rid of a frontline pitcher for a guy they may only have for the 2026 season, because after 2026, Ward will be a free agent.
However, the front office must have felt that Rodriguezz was a risk, and his long-term health may not work out. But Baltimore was able to get a right-handed power hitter, something they needed.
Baltimore may be putting their eggs in the starting pitching basket this offseason. Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter does not see them making any other moves offensively outside of the Ward trade.

“The Orioles might have already made their big offensive splash when they acquired slugger Taylor Ward from the Angels in exchange for oft-injured starter Grayson Rodriguez.”
According to Reuter, their Opening Day starting lineup could look like this:
- 2B Jackson Holliday
- C Adley Rutschman
- SS Gunnar Henderson
- LF Taylor Ward
- 3B Jordan Westburg
- CF Colton Cowser
- RF Tyler O’Neill
- DH Samuel Basallo
- 1B Coby Mayo
Ward could handle the four-hole in the order, while youngsters Coby Mayo and Samuel Basallo will see starting roles. However, Ryan Mountcastle will be available off the bench and could slot in at first base after he was tendered a contract.
Baltimore may not do much offensively this winter, but watch for them to be aggressive in the starting pitching market. They need to acquire at least one frontline starter to pair behind Trevor Rogers and Kyle Bradish next season.
