What If the Chiefs’ Next Big Move Isn’t a New Star, But Two Familiar Faces Returning Home?.QQ

We are less than 24 hours away from the NFL’s Nov. 4 trade deadline.
The Kansas City Chiefs are always a candidate to make a deal, given the aggressive nature of general manager Brett Veach. While running back and defensive line are the position groups most expect Veach to address in a potential trade, he could look to strengthen the roster elsewhere.
More often than not, trades during the regular season aren’t blockbusters. Most of them are for depth, project players, or familiarity. Kansas City’s brass has always valued the latter, and on Monday NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that two former Chiefs, who both currently play for the Washington Commanders, have been put on the trade block.
A case for Commanders OL Andrew Wylie
Although it’s coming off a rough performance against the Buffalo Bills in Week 9, the Chiefs’ offensive line has been much improved this season. However, as the team experienced last year, injuries can derail the unit quickly.
Wylie played in K.C. from 2017-2022, starting 59 games throughout that span. He played both left and right guard early on, but shifted to right tackle during his final two seasons with the Chiefs. Wylie started in K.C.’s loss in Super Bowl LV, and victory in Super Bowl LVII.
He has spent the past three years with the Commanders, starting in 33 games. If Veach decided to bring Wylie back, he would provide quality depth and shouldn’t have any issue getting back in the swing of the Chiefs’ offense. With Jawaan Taylor currently nursing an ankle injury, it would be valuable to have a guy like Wylie to plug in if needed.
A case for Commanders OL Nick Allegretti
Allegretti was selected by the Chiefs in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He spent five years in K.C., starting 13 games in the regular season and eight in the postseason, including the team’s victory in Super Bowl LVIII.
During the Chiefs’ 2021 wild-card matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Allegretti caught a one-yard touchdown pass. He signed with the Commanders in 2024, and started every game for them at left guard that season, which included three playoff games.
Allegretti started the first two games of the 2025 season as right guard, but ironically was benched in favor for Wylie. The Chiefs are set with Trey Smith and Kingsley Suamataia as their starting guards, but the depth behind them leaves a lot to be desired. Like Wylie, Allegretti would fit right back in and provide reliable depth.
